WHAT’S GOING ON AROUND FOOTSCRAY AND MARIBYRNONG

TRANSIT CITY FUNDING OF $52 MILLION
The State government has put over $52 million on the table with the City of Maribyrnong to develop Footscray train station and precinct. This adds to money already allocated to redevelopments of the Nicholson Street Mall and Maddern Square. A notable feature of the plans is a ‘one-stop planning shop’ to support local development.

WHITTEN OVAL $20 MILLION REDEVELOPMENT
Whitten Oval will be reinvented into a state-of-the-art training facility and community hub with funding from the Federal Government, the AFL, the State Government and the Western Bulldogs' Forever Foundation. This is one of several major developments in the western end of Footscray.

MARIBYRNONG COLLEGE’S $10 MILLION HIGH PERFORMANCE TRAINING CENTRE
Maribyrnong College is Victoria’s first government sports school. Since 2005, the college has run a selective entry specialist sport program in anticipation of the construction of purpose-built facilities in 2010.

Besides these major constructions, the City of Maribyrnong already has many popular attractions and destinations. These are just some:

  • Maribyrnong Aquatic Centre
  • Highpoint Shopping Centre
  • Victoria University
  • Melbourne’s Living Museum of the West
  • Footscray Community Arts Centre
  • Women’s Circus
  • The Dog Theatre
  • Snuff Puppets
  • Lonely Planet Publications
